Whether you need routine periodontal exams, a deep cleaning, or ongoing maintenance, we’re here to support your health in a relaxed, family-friendly environment.
Periodontal Exams and Cleanings

If your gums are healthy or showing early signs of irritation, a professional cleaning can remove the plaque and tartar that brushing and flossing can’t reach. Regular cleanings are essential in preventing gum disease from developing or progressing.
At Midtown Dental, we take extra time with each of our patients to explain the findings, review home-care tips, and help you understand the steps you can take to maintain healthy gums between visits.
Specialized Care for Gum Health: Periodontal Treatment
If gum disease is present, prompt care is important. Periodontal disease is caused by bacteria below the gum line that lead to chronic inflammation, gum recession, and, if untreated, damage to the bone that supports your teeth. Even though gum disease is common, the good news is that it responds very well to professional treatment, especially in the early and moderate stages.
At Midtown Dental, we develop customized periodontal treatment plans designed to stop infection, promote healing, and support long-term gum stability.
Non-Surgical Gum Therapy: Scaling and Root Planing (Deep Cleaning)
For patients diagnosed with mild to moderate gum disease (periodontitis), we may recommend Scaling and Root Planing (SRP), often called a “deep cleaning.”
- Scaling. During this step, your provider carefully removes hardened plaque and tartar from the teeth and below the gum line, deep into the periodontal pockets where a toothbrush can’t reach.
- Root Planing. After scaling, we smooth the root surfaces of the teeth. This makes it more difficult for bacteria to reattach and allows your gums to tighten back around the tooth as they heal. Reducing the pocket depth is critical for supporting long-term gum health.
To help keep you comfortable, we typically perform SRP using local anesthesia. Most patients are surprised by how easy and comfortable the appointment feels. Scaling and root planing is one of the most effective non-surgical treatments for gum disease. It can halt disease progression, reduce inflammation, improve gum attachment, and often reverse early stages of periodontal damage.
Periodontal Maintenance
After your initial treatment, we may recommend a specialized maintenance schedule. Periodontal maintenance visits are usually scheduled every 3–4 months to help prevent bacteria from returning and to keep your gums healthy long-term. These visits include monitoring your healing, measuring pocket depths, and performing targeted cleanings personalized to your needs.
Patients who follow a steady maintenance plan typically enjoy the best long-term outcomes and are far less likely to experience disease recurrence.
Do You Need Periodontal Care?

- Bleeding when brushing or flossing
- Red, swollen, or tender gums
- Persistent bad breath
- Gum recession
- Loose or shifting teeth
- A history of gum disease
- Missed dental cleanings
Even if you have no symptoms, gum disease can be present and painless. That’s why regular exams are essential for protecting your oral and overall health.
